A new study, performed in collaboration with transport experts Fehr & Peers, finds that implementing autonomous vehicle operations in a high intensity urban bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor can provide significant benefits to transit operating efficiency and passenger service. Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), with service optimized for system performance and responsiveness to specific passenger origin/destinations, can provide high passenger capacities, reduce delays, and improve rider experience, and potentially increase choice ridership and reduce emissions and energy consumption per corridor person trip.
